Construction & specifications

Inside a THIZ sliotar

About official GAA match sliotars: for official GAA games, the GAA requires sliotars to come from its approved licensees, and the RFID Smart Sliotar is used at inter-county level. THIZ balls are made to the published dimensions for training, wall work, coaching, schools and club challenge games, and we manufacture OEM for brands that hold or are applying for a licence. Buyer's guide 2026–27

How to buy hurling balls in bulk

Match, training or wall ball?

Leather match sliotars give the true feel of the game but wear fastest on concrete. For ball walls and wet evenings, all-weather hurling balls with PU covers last far longer. Dimple balls are seamless, so they suit ball machines and repetitive striking drills. Most clubs order a mix: a few dozen match balls and several hundred training balls.

Choose the right size

Senior hurling uses a size 5 sliotar and senior camogie uses size 4. Go Games use smaller, softer balls: Quick Touch size 2 for under 8 to under 10 and Smart Touch size 3 for under 11 and under 12. The First Touch ball is the softest, for nursery players taking their first swings.

Yellow or white sliotars

The GAA recommends yellow high-vis sliotars for hurling from minor level up, and many clubs now buy yellow for all ages so players train with the ball they see in games. We still make white and custom colours for training, branding and retail lines.

Custom logo sliotars

Printing your crest on every ball cuts losses (balls come back to the club) and turns sliotars into a fundraiser and merchandise line. Send a vector logo and we return a mockup within 48 hours.

Ordering for the 2027 season

Clubs use most balls between February and September, so ordering in November to January means stock arrives before league training. Shops ordering for Christmas and spring retail should book production four to six weeks ahead.

Wholesale and OEM

Our wholesale hurling balls pricing drops at 500, 1,000 and 5,000 balls. Brands use us as an OEM sliotar manufacturer for their own label, with confidential specs and samples stored for repeat orders.

FAQ

Questions from ball buyers

What is the minimum order for custom hurling balls?

Custom logo sliotars start from 300 balls per design. Blank balls and mixed ball types can be combined in one shipment.

What size and weight are your match sliotars?

Our match sliotars are built to the published GAA ranges: 69 to 72 mm diameter excluding the rim and 110 to 116 grams, with a rim 1.8 to 2.6 mm high.

Can your sliotars be used in official GAA games?

For official GAA games the GAA requires sliotars from its approved licensees, and the RFID Smart Sliotar is used at inter-county level. Our balls are made to the published dimensions for training, coaching, schools and club challenge games, and we manufacture OEM for licensed brands.

Do you make yellow sliotars?

Yes. We make high-vis yellow sliotars with red stitching, as well as white and custom colours for training and branded lines.

Which ball should children use?

Go Games use smaller, softer balls: Quick Touch size 2 for under 8 to under 10, and Smart Touch size 3 for under 11 and under 12. First Touch balls suit nursery players.

What is the difference between leather and all-weather hurling balls?

Leather sliotars give the true match feel but wear faster on concrete and in rain. All-weather balls use PU covers that resist water and last much longer on ball walls.

Can you print our club crest on the balls?

Yes. We screen print, foil stamp, deboss or emboss logos and send a free digital mockup within 48 hours.

How long does an order take?

Samples take 7 to 10 working days and bulk production 15 to 25 working days after approval, plus 3 to 6 days express shipping to Ireland, the UK, Europe and North America.
